A small pillow that props the bump or the lower back without taking over the bed the way a full-body pillow does. Low, curved and light enough to move with you when you turn over.

The Pregnancy Wedge Pillow, a low curved grey cushion, resting on a bed with cream linen bedding

Why it works

  • Takes the pull off your side. Tucked under the bump, it stops the ligament drag you feel when the weight of the bump hangs toward the mattress.
  • Doesn't take over the bed. A full-body pillow means negotiating with whoever else is in the bed. This is the size of a cushion.
  • Doubles as back support. Behind you when you're sitting up to feed, or behind the small of your back in a chair.
  • Cooling cover. Removable and machine washable, which matters for anything that spends every night against you.
  • Travels. Small enough for a hospital bag, and small enough to keep using in a hotel bed or on a sofa.

Ways people actually use it

The obvious one is under the bump when you're lying on your side, with the curve taking the weight so nothing pulls. The second most common is the other way round: behind the small of your back, either in bed or propped in a chair, which is where a lot of people end up using it postpartum.

It is also the one piece of sleep kit that fits in a hospital bag, so it tends to get packed even by people who already own a full-length pillow.

On sleeping position: ask your doctor or midwife what is right for you. We're not able to give medical advice, and guidance on sleeping position in pregnancy is something they should be answering, not a product page.

Choosing regular or plus

Two sizes. Regular is the standard cushion. Plus gives you a wider surface, which suits a bigger bump, a longer torso, or anyone who wants to use it more as a back support than a bump support.

If you are torn, plus is the safer choice: a slightly larger cushion is easy to position, and a slightly small one gets pushed out of the way at 3am. There is no measurement table on this page because we don't have dimensions for it that we can stand behind, and we'd rather say that than invent them.

Specifications

  • Two sizes: regular and plus
  • Removable cooling cover
  • One shape, no left or right

Materials & care

  • Cover is removable and machine washable. Wash cold, air dry
  • Spot-clean the inner cushion. Don't put the insert through the machine
  • Let it air out for a day if it arrives compressed before deciding how it feels
  • Keep it out of direct sun, which is hard on any cover fabric

Who it is not for

This is a small support cushion. If you want head, back, bump, hips and knees supported at once and you don't mind losing half the bed, the Huggable U-Shaped Pregnancy Pillow does that job properly and this one doesn't try to. If you want support while you're standing and walking rather than lying down, that's a belly band, not a pillow.

Common questions

Will it stay put when I turn over?
It moves with you rather than staying where you left it, which is the trade-off for something this small. Most people lift it across when they turn.

Can I use it after the birth?
Yes, and a lot of people do: behind the back while feeding is the most common second life for it.

Is the cover really washable?
The cover comes off and goes in the machine. The cushion inside doesn't.

Regular or plus?
Plus if you want more surface or you're using it mainly behind your back. Regular if you want the smallest thing that does the job.

Questions we get a lot

I am between sizes. What should I order?

Take the larger one. Almost everything here is worn on a body that is still changing, and a garment with a little room stays wearable for months longer than one that fits perfectly today. Where a product has a measurement table, use it. Where it doesn't, it is because we don't have numbers from the maker that we can stand behind, and we would rather say so than publish a table we invented.

Size exchanges are free, so the first guess doesn't have to be the right one. If you would rather ask first, email support@dearmother.co and tell us what you usually wear.

When will it actually arrive?

Orders are packed in 1-2 business days and typically arrive 3-7 business days after that, so most orders land inside a fortnight of ordering and often sooner. Shipping in the US is free over $50.

If you are ordering for a due date, order earlier than feels necessary. Babies are famously bad at reading calendars, and a belly band that arrives after the birth helps nobody.

What if it doesn't work out?

You have 30 days to return anything unworn, with the tags on. Size exchanges are free: you don't pay to swap a size you guessed wrong.

If something arrives damaged or is not what the page described, email support@dearmother.co and we will sort it out. Tell us what happened rather than what you think we want to hear, and it will be faster for both of us.

How do I know which one I need?

Roughly by stage. Belly bands and pregnancy pillows are for the months before. Nursing and pumping bras, belly wraps and breast pads are for after. High-waist briefs and a nursing bra are the two things people tend to use on both sides of the birth.

Every product page has a "Who it is not for" section or an equivalent, and they mean it. If two products look like they overlap, the page for each says which job the other one does better.

Is this safe to use during pregnancy or after a C-section?

We are not able to give medical advice, and we are not going to pretend otherwise on a product page. Support garments should feel like support, never like compression, and nothing here should hurt. If it does, take it off.

After a caesarean, wait until your doctor or midwife has cleared you for abdominal support before wearing a wrap or a band, and stop if anything pulls at the incision. If you have a high-risk pregnancy or any complication, ask them first. They know your situation and a website does not.

Why are there no reviews on this site?

Because we have not sold anything yet, and inventing reviews is fraud. When real customers have bought these products and told us what they think, their reviews will appear here. Until then the space stays empty rather than being filled with something we made up.
